Qstream Wins Brandon Hall Group HCM Excellence Award for Developing Nursing Skills at Dartmouth Health

Company honored for its innovative microlearning solution that helps improve patient diabetes management among nursing staff

Burlington, Mass – September 8, 2022 – Qstream, the leading enterprise microlearning and knowledge reinforcement solution, was recognized by Brandon Hall Group, a top Human Capital Management research firm, as a Gold winner in its 2022 Human Capital Management Excellence awards in the Best Advance in Competencies and Skill Development category. Qstream was honored for its work with Dartmouth Health, New Hampshire’s only academic health system, which equipped nurses with the necessary knowledge to properly provide insulin to diabetic patients.

A primary patient care goal for Dartmouth Health was to reduce the number of serious glucose events, which requires nurses to know the precise time to administer insulin to each patient. This is critical and varies from patient to patient depending on several factors, including the last time a patient has eaten and their current treatment plan. To improve diabetes management, Dartmouth Health partnered with Qstream to reinforce the current best practices around administering insulin to diabetic patients.

Dartmouth Health leveraged Qstream’s unique software algorithm that employs the testing effect and spaced repetition to ensure concept mastery and promote long-term knowledge retention. This scientifically proven principle can increase knowledge proficiency by 35%+ and retention by 170%.

The microlearning questions delivered were non-disruptive and could be easily answered on a mobile device or via email in just a few minutes. This allowed nurses to complete learning challenges on their schedule without interrupting patient care.

Qstream helped Dartmouth Health achieve the following results:

  • A 66% reduction in nursing administration errors that contributed to serious glucose events, well above their original goal of less than 30%
  • A 25%+ proficiency increase across all participants, proving they were able to address critical gaps in knowledge around specific patient care scenarios
  • 85% of participants saying Qstream effectively increased their confidence in diabetes management

Additionally, the program was well received by participants, who found the new learning format easy to use and efficient. Nearly all participants said the time commitment was just right and an overwhelming majority would recommend Qstream for future learning opportunities.

“Qstream’s microlearning platform was both quick and effective in keeping our nursing staff up to date with the latest best practices for diabetes patients,” said Mary Wood, Diabetes Clinical Nurse Specialist, Dartmouth Health Medical Center. “The ability to personalize the questions allowed us to focus on specific areas where improvement was needed to not only reduce nursing administration efforts but increase the confidence in our staff when it came to diabetes management. The nurses also really enjoyed answering the questions which resulted in some productive group discussions and significantly better patient outcomes.”

Qstream’s simple, efficient and highly effective microlearning and knowledge reinforcement solution is built for today’s hybrid, digital workforces. Leading hospitals, medical schools and continuing medical education providers depend on Qstream to help employees master healthcare compliance training knowledge, retain healthcare safety procedures and develop soft skills needed for superior patient service.

“Healthcare workers have a tremendous responsibility to respond to critical patient situations, often with only a moment’s notice. On top of that, medical best practices are constantly changing, making it essential that healthcare workers have access to the evolving knowledge and skills to have best patient outcomes.” said Dan Whelan, CEO of Qstream. “It’s been a privilege to partner with Dartmouth Health to ensure their staff retains the knowledge needed to best serve their patients.”

HCM Excellence Award entries were evaluated by a panel of veteran, independent senior industry experts, Brandon Hall Group analysts, and executives based upon the following criteria: fit the need, design of the program, functionality, innovation and overall measurable benefits.
